Are there special requirements for out-of-state students?

Foreign students must present proof of permanent residency in the United States. The Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology are authorized to enroll immigrants/permanent resident students who provide the school with a resident alien card (Form 1-551) or other acceptable document to verify permanent resident status. The school is not approved by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to accept foreign nationals.

Can I receive credit for courses taken in high school or other previous experience?

Possibly. Students may receive credit for skills or knowledge obtained in high school or at another postsecondary school. If you think you are eligible for advanced placement credit, visit the Placement Tests and Transfer Credit page for more information.

How do I get started?

To begin the application process, visit the Admissions page and follow the application instructions.

I’m a current high school student. Can I enroll in TCAT courses?

Many TCATs offer high school students the opportunity to earn dual enrollment credit (credit at high school and credit at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology). Opportunities for dual enrollment vary by campus.

Eligibility and award information for the Dual Enrollment Grant at Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology is available for review online on the College for TN’s Dual Enrollment Grant page.

Students who do not meet the Dual Enrollment Grant eligibility requirements may still dual enroll and pay tuition and fees out of pocket.

Students should complete both the TCAT Dual Enrollment Application and the TSAC Dual Enrollment Grant Application online.

I’ve already earned a diploma from a full-time TCAT program. Can I apply to another program?

Students who complete a diploma in a full-time program must wait at least six months before enrolling in another program. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What happens after I submit all required documents?

After you submit all required documents, your application will be reviewed. You will then be notified whether you have been accepted into the program.

If you are accepted and the program is full, your name will be placed on a waiting list based on the date your application was completed. You will be notified when an opening becomes available.

If you decline the first available opening, Student Services may delay your entry into the next available spot. If you decline a second opening, you will be removed from the waiting list entirely.

If your program has a long waiting list, Student Services may contact you from time to time to confirm that you are still interested. If you do not respond within a reasonable time, your name may be removed from the waiting list.
